The Holy Cross community was founded in the year 1979. Educationally and socially Sikkim was a very backward state at that time. Therefore, the purpose of founding the community in this area was to uplift the poor and simple people by giving them proper education. Keeping this in view a pre-primary school was set up which has at present around 550 students in classes nursery to one. Holy Cross sisters at Gangtok are also involved in collaborative mission with the diocese of Darjeeling. At present one sister is working in the diocesan school, rendering her services as the headmistress of St. Thomas School.

At present there are 03 sisters engaged in the mission of education.
