Kankebong is a remote village of the state of West Bengal in the district of Kalimpong, belonging to diocese of Darjeeling. The residents are mostly Nepalese, most of them belonging to Lepcha tribe. These people are simple and peace loving.
Responding to the invitation of the then Bishop of Darjeeling diocese, Late Rt. Rev. Eric Benjamin, Holy Cross Sisters arrived here in the year 1995, March. A primary school to educate the poor children of the locality and a dispensary to cater to the medical needs of the people were set up by the sisters.
At present there are 03 sisters in the community, 2 of them engaged in the school and one in the dispensary. Though the number of patients are very negligible, yet in view of providing the poor immediate health care the sisters continue with the health ministry.
