Batsonkor is a remote village in the district of Dakshin Dinajpur, in the state of West Bengal, in the diocese of Raiganj. Most people here are migrated from Bangla Desh who are tribal, illiterate and landless laborers. They are economically, educationally and socially backward.
To this situation the Holy Cross sisters arrived here in the year, 1985. The main purpose of establishing a convent here was to educate the poor children of the village in collaboration with the diocese and to give health care to the poor people of the locality. As the government run health facilities became available in the area, the number of patients in the health center declined drastically and gradually it had to be closed down.
In spite of the hurdles of poverty, lack of conveyance, unavailability of trained staff, the sisters are moving forward with courage in the mission of education. The sisters also take care of around 50 girl children in the hostel.
At present there are 03 sisters engaged in the mission.
