Kolkata, formerly known as Calcutta, is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located in the eastern India on the bank of the Hooghly river. It is the ‘cultural capital of India.’
As the Holy Cross communities of West Bengal felt the need of having a transit house in Calcutta during their visit to the city for official works the higher superiors decided to look for a place in Calcutta. Sr. Amala Kunnath the then Regional superior with the help of Fr. Albert Sdb found a plot of land measuring to 10 khatas. Later on the sisters purchased the land and constructed a convent building. The convent was officially inaugurated on 26th September, 1991. It catered to the sisters who visited the city from different provinces as transit house. Community also were taking care of the Anglo Indian community in the Auxillium parish. Later on in 1992 on 5th September, a kindergarten school was established with 24 children to impart basic education to the neighboring children.
